Director of Development
The Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation (VBCF) is seeking a full-time Director of Development to join our dedicated team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the breast cancer community by supporting individuals and loved ones affected by the disease. The Director of Development will play a crucial role in planning and executing mission-focused fundraising activities to recognize and retain current donors, while also increasing and diversifying future supporters. This is a full-time, statewide position based in Richmond, Virginia.
Position Overview
The Director of Development will report to the Executive Director and work closely with our current team of five. This full-time, exempt, salaried position is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies aligned with VBCF’s mission, programs, and strategic plan goals
Essential Job Functions
The Director of Development is responsible for:
Strategic Planning
- Develop, implement, analyze, and improve annual strategic fundraising campaigns
- Align fundraising efforts with VBCF’s mission, programs, and goals
Major Donor Cultivation
- Steward existing and cultivate new relationships with major donors
- Secure significant financial support from individuals, corporations, and foundations
Individual Giving Programs
- Identify, develop, retain, and expand peer-to-peer giving programs
- Manage annual fund appeals, monthly giving, regional campaigns, and planned giving initiatives
Business Partnerships
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with businesses of all sizes
- Develop sponsorship packages and coordinate corporate giving campaigns and events
Special Events
- Plan, organize, and execute VBCF’s signature fundraising events including Breast Cancer Awareness Month each October
- Collaborate with volunteer committees to ensure successful event execution
Donor Communications
- Develop effective communication strategies to engage donors and share impact stories
- Manage donor stewardship through various channels, including newsletters, emails, and social media
Database Management
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date donor records in VBCF’s platforms (DonorPerfect and QGiv)
Budgeting and Reporting
- Work with the Executive Director to develop and manage the development budget
- Track fundraising metrics and provide regular reports to the Board of Directors
Collaboration and Ambassadorship
- Work closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers
- Promote VBCF’s presence in the community through media relations and outreach activities
Supervision
- Supervise regional and support development staff
Requirements
The following represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of the job:
- Passion for VBCF’s mission and programs supporting all Virginians affected by breast cancer
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising
- Proven track record of successful major gifts solicitation and fundraising event management
- Self-motivated with strong project management and multitasking abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills
- Strategic thinking and analytical capabilities
- Proficiency in donor database management and fundraising software (DonorPerfect and QGiv experience a plus)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
Experience with donor management software (DonorPerfect and QGiv preferred)
Physical Requirements and Travel
- Must be willing and able to travel throughout Virginia, with limited overnight stays
- Evening and weekend work is anticipated with advance notice
- Valid Virginia driver’s license and reliable transportation required
Competitive Salary & Benefits
The salary hiring range is $100,000 to $110,000 and is negotiable in that range based upon related credentials and work experience.

Southwest Virginia Events Manager
The Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation (VBCF) is seeking a full-time Southwest Virginia Events Manager to join our dedicated team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the breast cancer community by supporting individuals and loved ones affected by the disease. The Southwest Virginia Events Manager will operate a regional office of VBCF, playing a crucial role in supporting our clients and donors in the western region of our state by implementing, coordinating, hosting mission-focused educational and fundraising events and activities.
VBCF empowers Virginians impacted by breast cancer through access, advocacy, education, and community action. We are a statewide, state-based 501c3 headquartered in Richmond.
The Southwest Virginia Events Manager will work closely with our Richmond staff. A high level of interaction and cooperation with staff and geographically diverse volunteers is expected. Travel is anticipated with advance notice as well as event-specific evening and weekend hours. Experience with remote work is a plus. The anticipated salary hiring range is $45,000-53,000.
RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
Fund Development

Coordinate and oversee VBCF’s regional signature fundraising events – Power of Pink Roanoke, Pink 13.1 in Abingdon – and community-based fundraisers, including Sole Stars.

Maintain and build regional donor relationships with individuals, businesses, and community supporters.

Assist in managing and supporting the fund development communications calendar (grant proposals, special events) for the western Virginia region.

Conduct donor database entry/oversight, reporting, and analysis to ensure campaign goals are met.
Mission Programming

Serve as a Mission Ambassador. Expand existing and establish new relationships with local, regional and statewide partners to publicize and offer educational materials and access, education, advocacy and community empowerment program offerings. Represent VBCF at community meetings.

Actively share and participate in mission programming to include regional trainings, conferences, advocacy days, health fairs, and speaking engagements.
Public/Media Relations

Draft content for VBCF communications.

Promote and ensure a positive presence in the community through outreach activities and collaboration with targeted organizations and groups.

Develop and maintain local media relationships; helping to develop press releases and articles for publication.
REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree or work equivalent.

Self-motivated with strong project management and multitasking abilities.

Ability to work well as part of a small, energetic team is critical.

Ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external partners and to develop strong working relationships with volunteers.
