The American Cancer Society’s Patient Lodging Programs
Getting the best care sometimes means cancer patients must travel away from home. This can place an extra emotional and financial burden on patients and caregivers during an already challenging time. The American Cancer Society is trying to make this difficult situation easier for both cancer patients and their families through their lodging programs – Hope Lodge Communities and their partnership with Extended Stay America.

Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House
The Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House is a home away from home for caregivers of patients at St. Mary’s Hospital. It is a place of peace and healing for patients and their families. With 16 guest rooms, the 14,000-square-foot Guest House is within a safe and easy walking distance of St. Mary’s Hospital. Guests will have the companionship of other families going through similar experiences. Volunteers and community partners will stand by to answer questions, help locate necessary services and goods, and provide a sympathetic ear and a hand to hold.

The Doorways – Between Healing & Home
The Doorways provides a healing, emotionally supportive environment for those who need to be close to the hospital but not far from the feeling of “home.”  They are Richmond’s premier provider of temporary lodging and non-medical services to patients and their families referred through  participating Richmond-area hospital partners including VCU Health, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Sheltering Arms Hospital, and the Veritas Collaborative.

Richmond Fisher House & Foundation
The Richmond Fisher House was a gift to the Veteran’s Administration through the generosity of the Fisher House Foundation. It serves as a home away from home for the families of veterans receiving care at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System. Located on the Medical Center campus, the home is 16,800 square-feet in size and consists of between 41 suites with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, spacious dining room and an inviting living room with a library and toys for children. Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is no fee to stay in a Fisher House.
