Introducing Our Newest Team Members!

VBCF is thrilled to welcome two new staff members to our dedicated team – Shelley Callahan and Antonia Arias-Magallon. Shelley is joining us as our Director of Development, and Antonia (Toni) is our Southwest Virginia Events Manager. Together, they will be working to coordinate VBCF’s Signature Events and offer resources to our statewide supporters – all in an effort to expand our work across Virginia.

Meet Shelley

Shelley Callahan joined VBCF in April 2025, bringing with her 20 years of fundraising experience. A Richmond local since 2000, Shelley’s first fundraising endeavor was raising funds for VBCF in 2005 after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2007, Shelley founded the nonprofit organization Books on Wheels while working toward her Masters of Social Work degree at Virginia Commonwealth University, which provided free books and free bicycle repair to communities across the East Coast.

From 2014 to 2025, Shelley worked as the Director of Development for Children Incorporated, an international NGO providing basic educational needs resources to children living in poverty around the world. Shelley’s passion is to support and empower others through meaningful causes. In her spare time, Shelley loves to read and spend time with her family.

Meet Antonia

Antonia Arias-Magallon joined VBCF in April 2025 as the Southwest Virginia Events Manager, bringing her passion for community, connection, and advocacy to every event she touches. Originally from Illinois, Antonia now calls the scenic beauty of Virginia home, where she lives in Bedford with her husband, their two beloved dogs—Appa and Max—and their spirited cat, Banana. Outside of work, she finds joy in hiking the Blue Ridge trails and curling up with a good book.

Before joining VBCF, Antonia worked with the Town of Vinton, where she led events that supported nonprofits like Feeding Southwest Virginia, the Roanoke County Office on Aging, and the Roanoke Valley SPCA. One of her proudest accomplishments was launching the Town’s first Breast Cancer Awareness Walk – an event that not only benefited VBCF but also sparked her deep commitment to the cause. With years of experience in event planning, strategic coordination, and public outreach, Antonia is excited to grow VBCF’s presence across Southwest Virginia and help create a future where informed, empowered communities thrive.

“As someone who has been deeply involved in community work throughout Southwest Virginia, I’m thrilled to join VBCF – a team that’s truly dedicated to supporting and empowering those impacted by breast cancer. I’m passionate about connecting with local supporters, survivors, and community leaders to strengthen our relationships and expand our reach. It’s a true privilege to support VBCF’s mission and help make a lasting impact in the lives of those affected by breast cancer.
