Some people leave a mark on an organization through the positions they hold. Others leave a mark through the way they make people feel.
Linda Clark Strickland did both.
Linda served as Treasurer of the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation from 2000 to 2006, helping guide the organization during its early years. But to speak about Linda only in terms of titles and years of service would miss what made her so special.
During her time as Treasurer, Linda was a constant presence at VBCF — always willing to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or simply be with the people around her. Even after her board service ended, she remained connected to VBCF, continuing to support our work and the broader breast cancer community for many years. Sometimes that meant attending an event. Sometimes it meant requesting Support Kits for someone she had met. Sometimes it was simply a kind phone call after reading our latest news.
What so many of us will remember most is her kindness.
Linda had a way of making people feel seen and valued. She was thoughtful, generous with her time, and genuinely interested in the lives of others. Whether she was volunteering, participating in the Women’s Memorial Golf Tournament, or stopping by the office, she brought warmth and compassion wherever she went.
For those of us fortunate enough to know her personally, Linda was more than an advocate and volunteer. She was a friend.
The breast cancer community is stronger because Linda was part of it. Her quiet generosity, steady presence, and caring spirit touched countless lives — including ours.
We extend our deepest condolences to Glenn and all of Linda’s loved ones. We are grateful for the years she shared with us, and for the example she set through a life lived with grace, kindness, and dedication to others.
Linda will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever a part of the VBCF community.
